World Cup 2022 qualifiers draw in Asia will be held at the head quarter of AFC: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on July 17
In the draw, AFC will divide 40 teams into 5 pots based on the latest FIFA rankings in June. According to the regulation, each group will consist of 5 teams from 5 different pots. In the second qualifier, they follow the round-robin format from September 2019 to June 2020, 8 group winners and 4 best runners-up will enter the third qualifying round to fight for the tickets to the final in Qatar as well as the ticket to the final of Asian Cup 2023.
Vietnam is ranked 96th in the world and 15th in Asia with 1232 points, thereby being pooled in Pot 2. While Thailand and the Philippines are grouped in Pot 3, Myanmar and Malaysia sit in Pot 4. Indonesia, Singapore and Cambodia take Pot 5.

Pot 1: Iran, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Qatar, UAE, Saudi Arabia, China
Pot 2: Iraq, Uzbekistan, Syria, Oman, Lebanon, Kyrgyz Republic, Vietnam, Jordan
Pot 3: Palestine, India, Bahrain, Thailand, Tajikistan, North Korea, Chinese Taipei, Philippines
Pot 4: Turkmenistan, Myanmar, Hong Kong, Yemen, Afghanistan, Maldives, Kuwait, Malaysia
Pot 5: Indonesia, Singapore, Nepal, Cambodia, Bangladesh, Mongolia, Guam, Macau/Sri Lanka
The second leg match of Macau and Sri Lanka has been cancelled as they refused to send their team for safety reasons. The decision relating to the match has not been given despite Macau’s 1-0 win in the first leg.
