Vietnam will likely slide from its current place at 97th to 99th place in the FIFA Rankings after the scoreless tie with Thailand in its first World Cup 2022 qualifier on Thursday.

According to new FIFA regulations, Vietnam will be deducted 1.6 points while Thailand will gain 1.6 points, because Vietnam is currently ranked higher (97th) than Thailand (115th).

Despite a 1.6-point loss, Vietnam will still stay in the top 100, as 98th place Armenia lost to Italy in the Euro 2020 qualifiers. Jordan and Palestine will climb to  97th and 98th place respectively following their wins in the World Cup qualifiers.

Thailand will remain at 115th, with 7 points less than 114th place Sierra Leone.

Vietnam will take on Malaysia on October 15 in Hanoi while Thailand will travel to Indonesia for a tough World Cup 2022 qualifying match on Tuesday.
